Antibacterial and Antifungal Activities—Surface Active Properties Relation of Novel Dischiff Base Cationic Gemini Amphiphiles Bearing Homogeneous Hydrophobes

A novel series of cationic Gemini amphiphiles containing Dischiff base species were synthesized and their chemical structures were determined using different analytical tools. Their surface properties were determined using surface tension measurements. The adsorption and micellization thermodynamic parameters were calculated using Gibb's equations at 25°C. The surface parameters were also determined including critical micelle concentration, effectiveness, efficiency, maximum surface excess, minimum surface area, interfacial tension, and emulsification power. The synthesized cationic Gemini surfactants were evaluated as bactericides for gram negative and gram positive bacteria and also against sulfur reducing bacteria (SRB). The results of the cytotoxicity of the synthesized compounds against the targeted bacterial strains were promising and completely dependent on the surface activity of these compounds.     

Resonant equations with the Neumann p-Laplacian plus an indefinite potential

We consider a nonlinear Neumann problem driven by the p  -Laplacian plus an indefinite potential and a Carathéodory reaction which at ±∞ is resonant with respect to any nonprincipal variational eigenvalue of the differential operator. Using critical point theory and Morse theory (critical groups), we show that the problem has at least three nontrivial smooth solutions, two of which have constant sign. In the process we prove some results of independent interest concerning the unique continuation property of eigenfunctions and the critical groups at infinity of a C¹$C^1$-functionals.

980nm半导体激光器输出光谱特性的改善

为了改善980nm半导体激光器的输出光谱特性,采用传输矩阵分析法推导了双布喇格光纤光栅谐振腔的传输表达式,对布喇格光纤光栅长度和谐振腔腔长对输出光谱的影响进行模拟仿真,结果表明布喇格光纤光栅长度对输出光谱的影响大于谐振腔腔长对输出光谱的影响,加长布喇格光纤光栅长度能压缩输出光谱线宽.在980nm半导体激光器尾纤上写入不同布喇格光纤光栅长度的双布喇格光纤光栅谐振腔,验证了引入双布喇格光纤光栅谐振腔在压缩980nm半导体激光器输出光谱线宽的同时改善了其输出光谱的稳定性.当环境温度在0~75℃范围内变化时,980nm半导体激光器输出中心波长仅变化0.06nm.     

Positive numerical splitting method for the Hull and White 2D Black–Scholes equation

We consider the locally one‐dimensional backward Euler splitting method to solve numerically the Hull and White problem for pricing European options with stochastic volatility in the presence of a mixed derivative term. We prove the first‐order convergence of the time‐splitting. The parabolic equation degenerates on the boundary x = 0 and we apply a fitted finite volume scheme to the equation to resolve the degeneracy and derive the fully discrete problem as we also investigate the discrete maximum principle. On almost sure max-limit theorems of complete and incomplete samples from stationary sequences

Let M _n denote the partial maximum of a strictly stationary sequence (X _n ). Suppose that some of the random variables of (X _n ) can be observed and let [(M)\tilde]_n\tilde M_n stand for the maximum of observed random variables from the set {X ₁, ..., X _n }. In this paper, the almost sure limit theorems related to random vector ([(M)\tilde]_n\tilde M_n , M _n ) are considered in terms of i.i.d. case. The related results are also extended to weakly dependent stationary Gaussian sequence as its covariance function satisfies some regular conditions.     

Large sample prediction intervals for future geometric mean a comparative study

This paper provides simulation comparisons among the performance of 11 possible prediction intervals for the geometric.mean of a Pareto distribution with parameters (αB, ). Six different procedures were used to obtain these intervals , namely; true inter -val , pivotal interval , maximum likelihood estimation interval, centrallimit teorem interval, variance stabilizing interval and a mixture of the above intervals . Some of these intervals are valid if the observed sample size m,are large , others are valid if both, n and the future sample size m, are large. Some of these intervals require a knowledge of α or B, while others do not. The simulation validation and efficiency study shows that intervals depending on the MLE's are the best. The second best intervalsare those obtained through pivotal methods or variance stabilization transformation. The third group of intervals is that which depends on the central limit theorem when λ is known. There are two intervals which proved to be unacceptable under any criterion.     

Short Tm3+-doped fiber lasers with watt-level output near 2 μm

High-power operation of diode-pumped fiber lasers at wavelength near 2μm are demonstrated with short length of heavily Tm3 -doped silica glass fibers. With 7-cm long fiber, a laser at near 2 μm is obtained with the threshold of 135 mW, maximum output power of 1.09 W, and slope efficiency of 9.6% with respect to the launched power from a laser diode at 790 nm. The output stability of this fiber laser is within 5%.The dependence of the performance of fiber lasers on the operation temperature and cavity configuration parameters is also investigated.     

Nonlinear optical properties of stimulated Brillouin scattering process in submerged object detection

Nonlinear optical properties of stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS)to signal detection in water are analyzed.With the threshold characteristics,SBS only occnrs when the high power laser is focused in the SBS cell.When there is an object present in front of the focus,it leads to lower incident intensity and then SBS does not occur.The backward SBS signal depends on the focusing location.The nonlinear optical properties of SBS process in the focusing regime axe analyzed theoretically.With the object coming near to the focusing center,the backward Stokes signal rises up from zero to a maximum,and then grows to saturation.The delay time of the echo signal to pump signal can give the object location.In experiment,the peak position of varying rate of energy can give object location.
